The existing school is characterised by clusters of buildings placed on a complex series of terraces cascading from the schools main entry. The Trade Training Centre offered the opportunity to provide large scale flexible workshop spaces whilst at the same time resolving the complex level changes and linkages across the site. Two main axes established "pedestrian streets" intersecting at the Trade Training Centre making easy passage across the site and linking the numerous school buildings. As the school campus has limited area, the Trade Training Centre could not be accommodated on one level, thus a 2 story solution cleared the ground plane for a variety of school activities and made way for convenient vehicular access, servicing all workshops. A roof terrace with views to the eastern playing fields was also created, providing additional terraced spaces.
